This morning, someone sent me a link to a page that had a special offer for (Bangalore) Burrpers. A restaurant called Annapoorna is offering a Rs. 25 discount to their customers, if they review them on burrp!. I am sure the discount is applicable to all reviews - positive or negative.
The other day, I ran into a restaurateur’s blog who was asking his readers to review their restaurant on Burrp! He specifically asked his readers to write independent and honest reviews:

Ok to clarify things here - people write independant reviews about the restaurant and Dal Fryday does not encourage any person to write favourable reviews about it… We have our limitations so an odd review would pop up once in a while….that is bound to happen coz its more likely that a bad review gets posted online than a good one…. Surely we will take it in our stride and correct ourselves …

Isn’t it great that businesses value honest feedback and are open to hearing both the good and the bad.

You people need to see www.ilaaka.com. Looks like they have already covered all cities. Why dont you acquire them? Any thoughts Deep?

Hey Ratan,

ilaaka seems to be doing some cool things also - while they seem to have a focus on local, from what I can tell, they seem to be going after Sulekha’s market more than ours. I could be wrong, but we want to keep our focus on a tight niche and then generally unwind that spindle as and when it makes sense.

Also, we are very proud of our data integrity and depth, something we believe all of our competitors lack.

I appreciate your comments - but we are a small, nimble startup in every sense of the word and cannot be serious about acquisitions at this point.

Thanks Deap. But I like to read business review and buy services, why not provide a way for the same? Even in burrp, it is like sulekha with lot of directory information. When it comes to restaurant or club, My college friends tell me the latest ones. But to get carpentar, nobody knows good place.

That’s a good point, Ratan. We’ve been thinking of the balance between a lifestyle product and a pure utilitarian product. We’ve not yet decided internally what the right balance is, but we do realize the huge importance of the utilitarian aspect as well. Stay tuned as we will have a very busy year making a lot of critical decisions to make sure we remain the best social local search engine in the country!

Ratan is right. In an indian context, how many people really go to clubs/eat out on a regular basis? You guys need to go after the untapped market, for ex: Where can i learn golf in bangalore?

Satvik,
We’re not in disagreement. I think you are absolutely right - the scope of our content needs to expand outwards. Interestingly though, I noticed you chose “golf lessons” as your example, which in my book, still falls in the category of lifestyle and leisure. Would you still maintain a focus generally on lifestyle related categories?

Guys,

While your sections on Mumbai and Bangalore look impressive, the ‘Coming soon’ thing doesn’t. Its been a long time since any of those cities have been profiled. Please try to get those online soon.
